Prison on the Road
Chapter 122:Prison on the Road
The caustic military trucks came out of the iron door of the base, and the four trucks followed each other, most of the seats in the carriages were occupied by the materials carried, and the position near the rear of the car was arranged to seat people.
There were two people in the cab of each truck, and the others in two rows in the back compartment.Jason sat in the co-pilot position of the first car, and the truck opened the door of the base, and the view outside the door made him feel both familiar and unfamiliar.
“Come out, how long have we been here?”Hill, who was sitting in the carriage of the first car, looked at the base gate, which was gradually moving behind him, and took a breath, and things were progressing as she had hoped, and all that remained was luck.
"Stay at the base and rust," Kim breathed the air outside, a burst of refreshing feeling from her nose to the lungs, "free air, it's good."
“How can I not smell it?”Thompson sniffed and didn’t notice any difference in the air outside than inside the base. The spat between Matt and Matt did not affect his mood, but on the contrary, his spirit seemed particularly excited because he had just received his equipment. At this moment, Thompson's heart was eager to encounter a group of zombies at once, so that he could immediately show his hand in front of Hill and Matt.
The car was at the top of the line, with the largest number of soldiers among the four trucks.Crew members and researchers were placed in the back of the three vehicles, each in addition to the two soldiers in the cab, and three soldiers in the carriages to protect.
“Can our convoy pass through dense water networks in the Everglades?”Kim thought that before she traveled there, she spent most of her time on small hovercraft.
“Don’t worry, I heard that there is a Route 9336 in the Everglades, and our convoy should have no problem walking along the road.”When Thompson came to Florida, he also made travel plans, which included the Everglades, and he vaguely remembered that there was a road through Miami.
"That's wrong, Thompson," King corrected him, "if, as you say, our convoy has been walking along Route 9336, and it will eventually take us to the flamingo Visitor Center, which is the southwest corner of Everglades Park."
"She's right, man," said one of the soldiers sitting across the street, "if you're in Florida for a little longer, I'm sure you'll be as familiar with this pretty lady."
“Haha, that’s it,” Thompson nodded, “what’s the name?”
"Tom," introduced himself to the soldier opposite, "this is Brandon, Tracy, Ben and Al.Hey Robert, introduce the brother next to you to meet this gentleman and the two beautiful young ladies."
The black guy next to Thompson raised his right hand and motioned to Thompson, "I'm Robert, this is Elvis and Jeremy."
The negro pointed to two comrades on his left hand side, and said that he had scratched his head, and looked at Tom not knowing what to continue to say.
“I remember you,” Hill said, pointing to him, “we’ve seen him in the hallway before, and are you still impressed?”
Robert smiled embarrassedly, and that day his friend Zack was lightly verbally in the hallway, and was met with a sharp counterattack by Hill.
“Where was your partner that day?”Hill looked at Robert's expression and knew he remembered himself, "How didn't he see him?"
"He's in the back of the car," Robert said of the vehicle behind him, which he did not say, and Zack later learned from the side that Hill seemed to have some unusual relationship with their chief Jason, so when he set out today, he specifically refused Robert's offer and changed to the car in the back, of course, to avoid Hill and Jason.
“He seems to be very small,” Hill laughed.
The truck was driving on the flat ground, and from time to time some small wild plants were pressed into the wheels, and when the truck passed, some of them were crushed into the soil, and then bounced back to the original.
Although the surrounding terrain is flat, the hardness of the soil on the road is average, and after the truck passes by, it leaves two clear wheel marks. The car occasionally bumps a few times, and most of the time it is very stable.
The sky was gloomy, and the humidity in the air began to get bigger. After the excitement period just started, the people in the car began to be somewhat listless. The outside scenery becomes monotonous, and occasionally some hills nearby stand there, and no one can be seen in the field of view.
I don't know how long, Jin felt the sound of the car slightly lifted, and then returned to the previous stability. She looked out of the caravan and found that the convoy had reached a road, and the greenery of the roadside began to increase.
Some farmland began to appear in the field of vision, but more or large grassland.
The convoy stopped after a distance, and something seemed to be going on in front of it, and Hill heard Jason in the cab notify the soldiers on the back of the vehicle with a walkie-talkie to start alerting the soldiers in the vehicle.
“What’s going on?”Thompson asked, and he cast the look of questioning at the soldiers sitting across the street.
"Certially," said Tom simply, as he had already put his gun in his hand as he spoke, and then the man had jumped out of the carriage, and Tracy and others got out of the car with him.
"Hey, don't go down and stay in the car, that's what the soldier should do," Ben saw Thompson with a gun and immediately stop him from coming. "We're good enough to deal with everything that's sudden, and it's safer for you to stay in the car."
"I've taken the gun," Thompson said. "It's not fair, you're discriminating against me."
“That’s an order,” Ben’s tone became serious.
“All right,” Thompson spread out and gave up on his intention to keep fighting.
“What is that?”The raincloth of the golden-poxed caravan looked forward through the gap.
“What?”Hill also came up to him, "It's like a prison."
Hill guessed that it was a prison on the periphery of the Everglas, and on the periphery was a row of railings inlaid with iron nets, with the grid mounted at the top of the railings.Nearby were scattered a few palm trees, fan-like blades swaying softly in the wind.
A sign was erected outside the wall, with the words “no approaching” on it, and looking through the barbed wire, there was no one on the lawn inside.
Soldiers had walked past the building with their guns on the building, and Jason left several people here in the truck to continue to protect the rest of the convoy.
Hill saw Jason coming to the barbed wire with men, and they began to cut the wire on top with pliers.
A rectangular barbed wire was cut and taken down, and the soldiers began to drill into the open hole. The men came within the prison walls and immediately dispersed, and several groups began to move towards the areas divided by their respective mandates.
The soldiers began to enter the interior of several buildings inside the prison, and their figures slowly disappeared into Hill's sight.Hill's heart began to tense, and it was some time before the departure, and the previous straight road had once made Hill forget the danger in the road ahead, when she saw the soldiers' battle, she did not know what would happen inside.
Not long after, there were sporadic gunshots inside the prison, and slowly the gunfire began to intensify. There was another sound of an explosion in the distant house, and some smoke emptied, and Hill’s hand clutched tightly over the metal railings of the carriage, and some panic began to appear in her eyes.
Thompson held the gun in his hand, and he swallowed the water, letting his nervousness calm down a little.
The shooting continued, and everyone was watching closely the situation there.
"Don't be too nervous, beauties," said Al, who was being left to keep everyone safe, "we are the most elite troops in the whole of Florida."
Al's words eased Hill's nervousness a little, but the gray sky and the continuous gunfire in the distance still prevented them from completely letting go.
“What happened in front?”Dr. Mario asked a soldier outside the carriage.
"There's a prison in front of you, and there's people in it to see if there's any survivors," the soldier said to Mario. "Don't worry, Doctor, it's the safest thing for you to stay in the carriages."
“Okay,” Mario nodded, not saying more.
“I’ve communicated our plans online to Washington, New Orleans, and Houston,” Martin told Mario, “but I’m not sure if they’ll see that information, because the server might filter out the information that doesn’t have high privileges.”
"It doesn't matter, we'll do our best," said the doctor. "A lot of times we have very limited options, so we can only do our best in a limited range of options."
“Haven’t you heard me say this in the past few days about the ‘mystery man,’” Dr. Mario went on, “has anything new to make this piece of progress?”
"I found myself a little bit out of his way," Dr. Martin shook his head, "and I'll try again the next few days, and if I'm lost, I'll give it back to Wartston when I get to New Orleans, and let the old men worry."
“Mario, are you saying I’m old?”Martin suddenly asked.
"You look so young compared to me," Mario laughed. "I'm curious why you suddenly had this idea."
“I had a feeling that maybe ten years ago I could have defeated this mysterious man,” Martin sighed, and pushed the glasses on her nose upwards. “But now the more I feel powerless as I come into contact with him.”
“Ten years ago?Maybe your opponent was just a child at the time.”Mario said, and then he and Martin laughed.
