Chapter 192:The Road to Truth

The road to truth, rugged and distant... Countless wise men, countless geniuses, fall on this subject.

So that in many people's minds, there is a strange psychology that does not exist in the "grand unified theory".

There is, of course, a reason for this idea, and it stems from another great theorem: the Gödel incompleteness theorem!

The famous mathematician Gödel once proposed an important milestone in the history of modern logic: he proved that any formal system, as long as it includes a simple description of the primary number theory, and is self-consistent, must contain propositions that can neither prove true nor falsify the methods allowed in some systems.

Gödel's incompleteness theorem is a very violation of common sense theorem. It tells mankind that truth and proof are two concepts. It must be true, but it is not necessarily verifiable.

In a sense, the shadow of paradox will always be with us.It is no wonder that the great mathematician said, "God exists, because mathematics is undoubtedly compatible; the devil also exists, because we cannot prove this compatibility."

What do you mean?

If the concept is extended to the whole universe and the laws of the universe are treated as a system, then something inexplicable and real will always appear.

People may find them, but they can’t be classified into existing systems, they just exist inexplicably.

Perhaps “gravity” is such an inexplicable thing that the “grand unified theory” does not necessarily exist.

The road to truth is always so long and difficult, perhaps human beings can find a unified theory, perhaps human beings will never find it.

It may also be that the relativistic system and quantum mechanics are inherently separate from each other, who knows?

Is the universe known?

Compulsory education and materialism tell us that the universe is known.

However, due to the uncertainty principle of microscopic particles and Gödel's incompleteness theorem, the basis of agnosticism has been shaken.

The universe is not necessarily known.

Man cannot break into God, he can only attack the darkness that surrounds the divinity. He threw the fire into the cold night, and the night receded, but only retreated.Through the efforts of generations, people spend countless efforts to eliminate the darkness around them a little.

When people think that they are about to face the light, the edifice of classical physics suddenly collapses, two dark clouds are getting bigger and bigger, and people unexpectedly find that the darkness outside the place is a greater, almost infinite darkness.

In this case, should it take a lifetime to explore some mystery that may never be solved?

People are very strange animals, they sometimes abandon interests, just fight for faith.

Gravity is a complex and difficult mystery in almost every model.

The most promising depiction of the universe at the moment is called the string theory.String theory, including the subsequent development of the m theory, can solve the contradiction between quantum mechanics and general relativity, but also one of the solutions of quantum gravity, it is likely to become the ultimate theory of the universe.

"String theory" mentioned that the universe originally had eleven yuan space, and then there was an explosion, so that some of the dimensional shrink into the space of the elementary particles.

But so far, string theory is just a general framework, with a lot of solutions, and so many possibilities.Different model schemes, like mosquitoes in the grass, can not be tested, can not be falsified, can not be used to predict with the current technology.

People only groped to the edge of it, and there was a large gap in the middle.

So, string theory is just an empty shell, there is no way to find out right and wrong. For scientists, if they want to perfect string theory, it can only be said that there is a series of lifetimes... It is not the current scientific theory at all.

The experts who explore string theory, the smartest heads, always show a dazed expression that they look dumbfounded. But please don't laugh at them, they are fighting the infinite mysteries of the universe for their lifetimes.

They know that this problem may be difficult to solve in their lifetime, but they still study it firmly... Because if they do not go this way, no one in the world will go, and this path to the ultimate truth may be cut off.

How far away, is it safe now? When will the wind break?

The road is to go step by step, and in the end, the string theory of the extreme will not be played for a while, and scientists will not be discouraged, and they begin to look for another pragmatic theory.

Einstein, the greatest scientist of the 20th century, had the idea of "one-on-one theory", wanted to integrate the electromagnetic force into the gravitational framework of general relativity and try to complete the unification of the four basic forces.(If implemented, gravity can be created using electromagnetic forces.))

So much so that Einstein fought for the rest of his life, but in the end, more than 30 years of scientific efforts seem to have achieved nothing.

Mr. Einstein said that it was not his powerlessness, it was really too difficult, like a mess of hair.He really can't help but leave this problem to the later generations...

Subsequently, the concept of the "Great Unified Energy Standard" was proposed, and many scientists have always believed that at a very high energy level, the basic interaction of the microcosm: strong interaction and electroweak interaction can be unified under a single normative group.

But it’s frustrating that this belief is so broken by experimental data that many scientists sleep through the night and feel that the faith has collapsed.

However, the rise of supersymmetry theory has allowed them to see hope again, so that the belief in the "Great Unity Energy Standard" has changed into the belief in "supersymmetry theory"... As long as the supersymmetry is correct, the grand unified energy standard is still promising.

Then, a new type of su(5) theory, which predicted proton decay, was given the hope of a unified theory, but seemed to be rejected by experiments.

Needless to say, the simplest version of the supersymmetric theory that was expected to be high was also experimentally ruled out in the early 2000s... another wave of faith collapse, people’s disappointment and frustration needless to say.

So that people can't see the end of the front...

Failed!

Failed!

Failed!

How difficult is the path of truth!

Such a theory is not to draw and write, and can be completed in a few hours, but it takes several years and decades to correct and perfect.

What would it be like to study something for a lifetime, to use a lifetime of faith to seek the truth, and to find that it was all wrong and all meaningless?

Such a failure seems to deny the meaning of the researcher's life.

Like the great Einstein, he fought for it for 30 years, but in the eyes of modern people, the methods and ideas he used were wrong. So much so that the last three decades seem to have yielded nothing, and have not been the result of modern physics research worth mentioning.

His last 30 years of research, people thought it was pointless. If there were no great achievements in the past, Einstein would have been forgotten only in the 30 years behind.

People only remember success, not failure.

Time is the most cruel, countless losers in the pursuit of truth, countless great figures, are gradually moving away with their unified dreams, gradually fade away, gradually away from people, slowly disappearing in the ruthless years of history...

With good luck, studying the Standard Model, winning the Nobel Prize, and being unlucky, you can only be forgotten.Their names will gradually be removed from the sight of the people.

Life is short, only a hundred years, why should we look for it on this rough road?

Who knows?

Perhaps the best and brightest humans and ordinary people think two species.

In this way, the new human civilization and the previous human civilization are also two different civilizations.
