Chapter 134:Diary
The battle on the farm was nearing its end, and after the sudden riots in the warehouse had been completely wiped out, some of the zombies left on the periphery had made no threat to the people in the convoy.
The contaminated wells had already sent Jason to the landfill, and they began searching the entire farm, but no survivors were found.
"Jason, there's no one here," Tom said, coming out of the last house on the farm with a few soldiers, "but it may not be that simple."
“Oh?”Tom’s words surprised Jason: “What did you find?”
"I've checked the other side of the warehouse with the cowboys before," said Tom, pointing in the direction of the warehouse. "You can go and look at it with me, and its door is stuck with the wooden board on the outside slot before it can be closed, and no one can put the cross-wood frame on it."
“You mean the survivors were kept in the warehouse by people outside?”Jason asked.
"That's what it should be," said Tom, nod, and the two men came to the door of the warehouse. The soldiers next to them were dragging the bodies on the ground to the side and burning them, and they saw Jason and Tom coming, and some people stopped working.
“You keep doing your business,” Jason said to them, and he looked carefully at the slot on the warehouse door. Two steel slots are inlaid on both sides of the gate, the width of the slot is about 10cm, and a roughly wide crosswood is on the ground.
"You're right," Jason said, "they're people locked in the warehouse from the outside, but the people who locked the door, we don't know where he's hiding."
"There are not only zombies in the warehouse on the farm, they are quite numerous outside," said Tom. "The people who locked the door of the warehouse are probably gone."
“He locked the door of the warehouse from the outside in order to keep the zombies out?”Jason seemed to be talking to himself, "Or, he deliberately locked the survivors inside and then destroyed the water."
"If it's the latter of these two situations, I'll kill the guy when I find him."Tom left his mouth, and suddenly his eyes became very sharp, "Only the devil can do this."
Several haystacks were lit by soldiers, and the flames began to devour the bodies placed on them, the bodies of Rodriguez and his three companions had been eaten by the zombies, and only some of the items they were carrying were retrieved, which were buried together under a large tree.
Jason found a plank and carved a line on it with a dagger: all were giving, but some were giving, and under the line was left with the names of the four soldiers who had died on the farm.Jason put a straight branch across the upper half of the plank, then wrapped the branches of the wooden plank tightly into a simple cross, and then set it up on a small mound under the big tree, all the people in the convoy surrounded the mound, and the soldiers fired 21 shots for the dead companion.
Many people in the convoy saw such a scene for the first time, and many people were infected by this solemn atmosphere.Thompson's face could not see the excitement before, replaced by a sad look, and although the dead soldiers were not very familiar with him, Thompson had fought with them, and subconsciously regarded himself as their part.
“Maybe the next person to get a shot is himself,” Thompson thought to himself, “can I ever go back to my hometown in Texas?”
“Alas...” Hill sighed, taking her eyes back from the mound, and she turned and walked in the direction of the truck.
Kim chased after him, and she saw Hill's eyes red, "Don't be sad, Hill."
"Jin, I'm worried about Jason," Hill said, turning her head to Kim, "and I've been at the base for so long, and I seem to have forgotten that death can come so fast."
“They were engulfed in the crowd of corpses in the warehouse, and within a few seconds they were gone from sight,” Hill said, leaning over to the truck, mushing his body in the car, “as if it had never been seen.”
"Don't be sad," said Kim, who took Hill to the back of the carriage, "let's go and sit in the car."
After a while, everyone continued to return to their trucks, the team suddenly lost four people, Jason had to fine-tune the number of people in each car.
When the truck drove on Route 9336, the people sitting in the carriage clearly felt that the road conditions had improved, and the roadbed of Route 9336 was very hard compared to the dirt road on the previous farm. The double yellow line divides the road into two lanes in the opposite direction, and four trucks drive straight on the right side of the yellow line, and some low shrubs can be seen on the side of the road.
It wasn’t long before the fleet arrived at the Ernest Ko Visitor Center, which sits on the side of Route 9336 and is usually used as the first stop for visitors to the Everglades Park. The convoy stopped outside the visitor center gate, and as Jason got out of the car, saw Matt rushing over from behind.
“Major, why did you stop again,” Matt asked Jason.
“We found some clues to survivors on the farm,” Jason said, pointing to the gate of the Ernest Ko Visitor Center. “It’s very close to the farm, and we might find something here that has to do with the clues.”
“But Jennifer’s illness can’t wait,” Matt said.
"Then, I will now arrange for the escort of Jennifer and Mason to the Flamingo Visitor Center, and the others will continue to follow me, and we will still meet at the Paheucci Observatory as we had agreed."Jason made a slight adjustment to his previous plans, changing the location of the separate operations from the Paheucci Observatory to this place, and he looked at Matt and said, "Do you send them yourself or how do you arrange it?"
"Kevin accompanied Jennifer and Mason to that place on my behalf," Matt said. "That's it, so arrange it."
"Well," Jason nodded, shouting at the two soldiers, "Robert, Jeremy, you're vacating the last truck."As planned previously, the two of you are responsible for escorting the Chief of Flight, Ms. Mrs. Mason, and Miss Mason to the Flamingo Visitor Center, where we meet at the Pahelochi Observatory before dark tomorrow.”
“Okay, Major,” the black guy said, as he and Jeremy jumped out of the carriage and ran toward the back of the truck. They began to transfer the supplies to the other three trucks, and the vacated places were spread out with camping mats for the convenience of placing Jennifer and Mason.
"Kevin, help me take care of them," Matt told Kevin. "Be careful."
“Don’t worry, old buddy,” Kevin patted Matt on the shoulder and turned and climbed into the car.
The truck left the convoy and headed forward along Route 9336, and Jason began to take the remaining soldiers toward the Ernest-Co Visitor Center.
At the entrance of the visitor center is a very conspicuous bronze medal with the head of Mr. Ernest Ko, the father of the Everglades National Park.
Jason had never heard of the name before, but it was better to have Mr. Ernest Coe’s life under the bronze medal.
“What a great guy,” Jason said after seeing the introduction, and finally had a general idea of Mr. Ernest Ko, whose admiration came from the bottom of his heart.
The establishment of the Everglades National Park benefited from the efforts of Ernest Ko, a graduate of Yale University and has been working in landscape design and landscape planning. He came to Florida at the age of sixty, and for the next twenty-five years he worked hard to establish the Everglades National Park, and after overcoming many difficulties, finally passed national legislation to make the park possible. His efforts have protected the pristine nature of the Everglades, and thus the countless wildlife that survive and thrive in this particular environment.
The Ernest Ko Visitor Center has two boardwalks, one of which is built on water, through which the walkway can penetrate deep into the marshes next to it.On both sides of the stack are endless yellow-green sha grass, the water in the swamp is very clear, floating on it with turquoise floating puffs, some water birds passing through the water, and occasionally crocodiles hidden inside can be found in the watergrass.
Jason crossed the waterway and came to another. This stairway built in the woods is very short, and when it passes through it, you can see the figure of some birds in the forest, and after yesterday's heavy rain, there is a lively scene here.
From the forest came out, the view suddenly broadened a lot, in front of a parking lot, next to the parking lot is a piece of lawn, the grass is scattered with some discarded mats and picnic garbage, a car parked on the lawn, behind the car is two clear ruts.
There are very few cars in the parking lot, and the window glass of several cars has been broken by people, and the car is full of rain. The back of the parking lot are several white buildings that are the reception of the visitor centre and the lounge area.Jason took people carefully closer there, and they came to the house in a row of light blue eaves and stopped.
At the gate of the visitor center, two zombies heard the movement on this side, and they found Jason, and the gunpoint of Jason and the soldiers were pointing at their heads. When the shot sounded, some water birds nearby were shocked.
“We went in there,” Jason waved in the direction of the gate, and the soldiers behind him began to disperse before and after receiving orders.
The floor of the visitor center hall was piled with garbage, and some of the corpses mixed inside could not be identified as they were. The room was full of a smell of rancidness, and some people’s brows wrinkled and began to lower the frequency of breathing.
The wooden table was full of dark brown blood, the chairs fell to the ground, and the soldiers were extra careful when they landed, and sometimes had to step on the garbage.
When he entered, Jason saw that the ground was full of glass slag.It turned out to be an exhibition area, where many specimens of plants and animals were placed in glass cabinets for visitors to see.The glass cabinets were already broken on the ground, some specimens were exposed to the damp air, and some places had begun to mold.
The visitor center building area is not very large, Jason will be inside the room one by one, and finally in a locked room, he found a highly decomposed body.
A diary next to the body caught his attention.
